Camels can survive long periods without food and water. They graze and browse on vegetation then store fat reserves in their humps, which they utilise when food is low.

After a pregnancy of 12-15 months, females give birth to a single calf, which can stand within minutes.

Conservation

These Bactrian camels are domestic animals therefore not endangered. However wild Bactrian camels are threatened with extinction due to hunting, competition with domestic animals and the industrialisation of parts of their habitat.
