The Chilean rose tarantula is a member of the Arachnid family. There are around 900 species of tarantula worldwide.

Habitat

This tarantula is found in the dry scrub at the edges of woodlands in South America. It is ground dwelling, spending most of its time in burrows.

diet

Diet

Chilean rose tarantulas eat insects and other spiders. They inject digestive juices into their prey, which turns the victim’s insides into liquid; the spider can then suck it up like soup!

Breeding

Females will lay thousands of eggs; however, only a few will survive into adulthood, as spiderlings will often eat their own siblings!

The Chilean rose tarantula has not been evaluated by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), however its habitat is believed to be threatened by habitat loss.
