The saker falcon is a large pale-looking falcon closely related to other falcons such as the peregrine and lanner.

habitat

Habitat

The saker falcon is often found in open dry country with cliffs or scattered trees. They are also found in forests, sub-deserts and grasslands.

diet

Diet

They hunt close to the ground and use their speed and manoeuvrability to catch small mammals. They will also feed on birds, some reptiles and occasionally insects.

Breeding

Saker falcons use old stick nests of other species of bird to lay 2 to 6 eggs, which are incubated for 30 days. The chicks will fledge (leave the nest) at 45-50 days old.

Conservation

Saker falcon numbers have declined in the wild due to trapping and habitat degradation. They are listed on CITES, a charter that limits or forbids the export of certain animals.
