Banham Zoo Horse Drawn Funerals
Banham Zoo Horse Department, offer a unique “Country Style” Funeral using our rare Suffolk horses and our range of fully restored, show condition farm wagons.
All our wagons are traditional to East Anglia and we are not aware of anyone else offering this type of traditional farm/agricultural style of funeral. In addition to Suffolk horses, which are native to East Anglia we can also offer our Shire Horses if preferred.
We have several horse drawn vehicles that could be offered as:-
The Winfarthing Waggon
This wagon was built by Roots of Dereham in 1910 for the LeGrice family of Winfarthing, Norfolk where it was used until the 1960s for general farm use. The wagon was purchased by Banham Zoo in the early 90’s where it has been fully restored to its original livery. This is a very traditional Norfolk farm waggon.
Timber Drug- 1900
This is an English made timber waggon used for transporting large tree trunks from their felling point to the saw mill. This is one of a handful left in existence.
The Kilverstone Waggon
This is a traditional farm waggon which was built in 1914 for the Kilverstone Estate in Thetford. It was traditionally used for farm work and has been fully restored to show condition in its original colours.
Our Horses
At Banham Zoo we specialise in promoting our British heritage of Heavy Horses (Suffolks and Shires) as well as seeking to help preserve and promote country working traditions such as ploughing and heavy horsemanship.
Banham Zoo horses are working horses and are used extensively on the farm, in the zoo, at county shows/events and also for roadwork. They are very use to people and crowds as well as working in traffic.
