Arrive in style on your Special Day

Arrive in style in a horse drawn carriage from Banham Zoo

The highly experienced Heavy Horse team at Banham Zoo offers you a truly unique experience and a bespoke service - tailored specifically to your ideas and needs for your big day wherever you are in the Country.

At Banham Zoo, we specialise in conserving and promoting the Heavy Horses, and your carriage can be pulled by a pair of our magnificent Shires or the oldest and rarest of heavy horses, the Suffolk Punch. Horses and carriages come tastefully dressed to match your colour scheme with driver and footman dressed in traditional attire.

We like to spend time with you discussing all the details well ahead of the event to ensure your day runs smoothly.

What we can offer you

• A variety of vehicles, including the Winfarthing Waggon (a traditional
Norfolk farm waggon and one of the oldest left in the county), an original
Omnibus, a vintage 1890’s Charabanc or our zoo dray.
• Transportation for just the bride and groom or your entire wedding party!
• Your choice of horses - either our rare breed Suffolk Punches, the native
breed of East Anglia or our regal Shire Horses.  All of our horses are
experienced in traffic, people and being photographed.
• Our vehicles decorated in ribbons in a colour of your choice (we can also
  recommend florists for fresh flowers).
• A driver and groom with many years of driving and horse experience.
• A bottle of champagne to start the celebrations as you leave the ceremony
• A real hand made horseshoe from one of our horses to bring you the very
  best of luck!
• Flexibility- we are happy to discuss any specific requirements that
you may have to ensure your day is something really special.
• Transportation for your hen party or come for an experience day
and spend a day with our horses learning basic horseman skills.

Our Vehicles

We have a number of vehicles that we can use for your special day and we specialise in providing traditional heritage vehicles that we have restored in our workshops.

The Winfarthing Waggon - This is a traditional Norfolk harvest waggon and was built in Dereham, Norfolk in 1928. It was traditionally used on the farm for gathering the harvest. The waggon would be suitable for the bride and groom only.

The Norfolk Charabanc - This historically important vintage open topped vehicle was built in 1893 and is one of the last surviving vehicles of its type. The Charabanc, was traditionally used for taking visitors to and from their hotels to the station and for excursions along the seafront. The Charabanc seats 16 and is ideal for transporting your wedding party.

The 1890 Omnibus - This covered bus was traditionally used for excursions and picking people up from the railway and transporting them to their hotels and seats 6-8 people.

Our Dray - This vehicle was built specifically for providing horse drawn dray rides in the zoo and carries 12 people. We also have access to a number of other vehicles in a range of styles and would be happy to discuss your requirements with you.
