HEAVY HORSE EXPERIENCE
A Day For A Horse Enthusiast To Treasure Forever!
Morning Activities 10am - 1pm

An Introduction to Banham Zoo’s team of Heavy Horses (the Suffolks, Shires, and Poitou Donkeys) located at the zoo and the private Wash Farm stables.

Gain some real ‘hands on’ experience during which you will learn about the Heavy Horse breeds and the differences between them.

Experience the basics of care whilst preparing one or more of the horses for work and for show.

Long reining to practise simple skills such as manoeuvring the horse through an obstacle course.

Prepare and provide a mid-day feed for your horse before taking your
well-earned break for lunch, provided at the ‘Parrot Pavilion’ restaurant.
Afternoon Activities 2pm - 4pm

Putting the morning’s experience into good practice.

Explore the different types of harness for different uses. Harness - the how’s and why’s and what fits where!

Harness your horse for use in a wagon, cart or exercise vehicle and head off onto the farm and surrounding countryside for a Heavy Horse driving experience.

Where a single Heavy Horse Experience is booked, an accompanying guest is given FREE admission to the zoo with lunch, and may accompany the Heavy Horseman for the afternoon's Farm and Countryside drive.

Where two have jointly booked no provision is made for additional accompanying guests

For Health and Safety reasons with the range of activities
being undertaken, the 'Heavy Horse' Experience is only available to those over 16 years of age. -
The programme of activities is dependant on the capability of the
participants, however, where it is possible, reasonable adjustments will be made to try to ensure that the 'Heavy Horse' Experience is open to all...
