Activities & Education Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Activities & Education Officer at Banham Zoo

This exciting role involves working in a close team to carry out the formal education and animal handling sessions, presenter talks, interpretation and event planning, as well as animal husbandry.

Due to the nature of our business, this position involves weekend and holiday period work.

The successful candidate will preferably have degree level qualifications in science in order to teach our formal education sessions. They will also ideally have experience of public speaking, education/teaching in a formal or informal context and have a good level of animal/environmental knowledge coupled with excellent customer care.

A full driving licence is also essential.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED

(minimum age 18) to help on the Zoo Animal Management Department

Successful applicants will have an opportunity to assist the ZAM staff with their many varied duties, these include the upkeep of animal enclosures and surrounding areas, preparation of animal diets and assisting the ZAM admin department when necessary.
There may also be potential for future development where working directly with non dangerous stock may be permitted dependent on individual ability and the needs and requirements of the department.
These posts would suit outgoing individuals who enjoy interacting with public, being outdoors and have an interest in the natural world.

Please note, this is not our work experience scheme. Our work experience scheme offers students studying in a related field at Level 3 or higher, the chance to experience work as a zoo keeper. Please contact info@banhamzoo.co.uk for more information.

Hours are flexible and would be between 8:00am to 4.00pm although preference will be given to applicants who are able to offer their time from Monday to Friday.

These include some animal husbandry & handling, face painting, visitor interaction, helping during our varied themed weeks, Discovery Sessions & birthday parties and some education administration where necessary. These posts would suit individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and have an interest in the natural world. Hours are flexible and would be between 9am to 5pm Mon – Sun.
