Animal Keeper/Trainee
Based at Banham Zoo

  • The successful candidate will perform all duties to ensure the smooth running of the allocated animal section to optimise the quality of animal welfare and visitor experience in support of ZSEAs’ vision and mission.

 

Some of the tasks you will do:

  • Help to ensure animal welfare, husbandry and management is of the highest standard, taking into account relevant legislation and best practice animal management.
  • Contribute to the display of the animal collection to ensure suitable for animals needs and presentable to the public.
  • Engage with and support visitors, ensuring your message is consistent with team objectives and in line with ZSEAs’ mission and vision whist providing first class customer care and service.
  • Collate and record detailed and accurate animal records via the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS). As well as complying with department policies in relation to administration and health & safety to ensure they are appropriately followed.
  • Continuously develop yourself through appropriate learning and development activities as agreed by line management in order to deliver excellence.

 

What we are looking for:

 

  • You must have worked in a zoo environment 1-3 years in a zoological establishment.
  • You must be prepared to work with all kinds of domestic and exotic species, and you will also provide support for the rest of the keeping team.
  • Applicants must be hard-working and conscientious.
  • A full driving licence is essential.
  • You will have a good level of education at standard grade or equivalent qualifications (including English, Maths and Science).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) ZIMS, training can be provided if necessary.

About the Role:

  • This is an exciting role for someone with a passion for food and making high quality food for our Guests. If you have excellent culinary experience and want to join a fast-paced kitchen environment, then this is the role for you.

 

Main Duties:

  • You will be required to enhance our visitor’s day out by ensuring the service of consistently high-quality food and drinks in each of our outlets.
  •  As part of the Catering Team, you will control wastage and take ownership of the kitchen operations.
  • To demonstrate a proactive can-do attitude in leading the food operations and assisting with the supervision of staff to develop the department continually.
  • Supporting with the development and delivery of the ZSEA Customer Service delivery and developing customer service excellence as well as complying with ZSEA Policies and Procedures.

Booking Officer
Based at Banham Zoo

 

About the Role:

 

  • This position is a part time permanent role working 3 day a week at Banham Zoo.
    The successful candidate will assist ZSEA to fulfil its Education Strategy and customer care expectations by ensuring all education group enquires are processed as swiftly and efficiently as possible.

 

Main Duties:

 

  • Process education (and uniform group) bookings using the booking system in house Merac system and keep the education team informed of bookings/sessions numbers as required. This includes onsite, online and outreach bookings.
  • Delivering excellent Customer Service via email, telephone and written correspondence as well as complying with ZSEA Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitor payments from education groups and act as a credit controller in collaboration with the Accounts Dept.
  • Form and maintain a good working knowledge of the educational opportunities we offer to ensure schools and groups gain maximum benefit from a visit to the zoos or an outreach/online educational experience. Promote our education sessions as part of bookings process.
  • Provide customer assistance for Bada Club members and process these bookings in conjunction with the Education Officers.
  • Build on existing relationships with schools and cultivates new ones.
  • Provide information and data to the Head of Education as required to assist with group bookings analysis and marketing.
  • Assist with day-to-day admin tasks for the education department as required.

 

 

About you:

 

  • Previous experience of customer services work is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent Word, Excel and Outlook skills.
  • Be able to prioritise and be very well organised.
  • An up-to-date knowledge of the school system would be beneficial.
  • Be able to stay focused on tasks in hand.
  • A good listener with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate a consistent, collaborative, and respectful approach to building relationships with your team members.

Education Officer
(Based at Banham Zoo)

 

About the role:

 

  • This exciting role involves working in a small team to carry out the formal education (onsite, outreach and online) and animal handling sessions, feeding talks and interpretation, as well as animal husbandry and the occasional relief cover of the Safari Roadtrain (only applicable if successful applicants are 21 years or above and have 2 years driving experience).
  • If successful in this role you will be working 37.5 hours a week over 5 days, and due to the nature of the business involves weekend and bank holiday working. This position will also include occasional cover at our other site, Africa Alive!

 

About you:

 

  • The successful candidate will have been educated up to degree level, in zoology or related science, to teach our formal educational sessions.
  •  They will have experience of public speaking, education/teaching in formal or informal context.
  • Teamwork (ability to work effectively as part of a team).
  •  Organisation (ability to be always punctual for work and to plan, prepare and organise for service).
  •  Accuracy, quality & speed of service (ability to work quickly and efficiently, delivering both quality & accuracy within a fast-paced environment).
  • Have a good level of animal/environmental knowledge, coupled with excellent customer care.
  • A full driving licence is also essential.
