Senegal Turaco

Tauraco persa buffoni

The Senegal turaco, also known as Buffon’s turaco, belongs to the family ‘Musophagidae’, along with ‘go away birds’ and plantain eaters.

Size: 40 - 43cm
Weight: 225 - 290g

The Senegal turaco is found in the forests of West Africa where its green plumage offers perfect camouflage amongst the trees.

The Senegal turaco feeds mainly on fruit, but will also eat leaves, seeds and flowers. Due to their diet, they are very important seed dispersers.

Both parents incubate the small clutch of 1 to 2 eggs, and both help feed the young.

The Senegal turaco is not classed as endangered and their population is believed to be stable.
