Artist in Residence at Zoo!

Tuesday 3rd July 2018

As part of Banham Zoo’s 50th birthday celebrations we are very pleased to introduce our new Artist in Residence, Libbi Hutchence. A skilled local potter, Libbi will be joining us for a number of events and activities throughout our birthday celebrations to help promote the work of Banham Zoo and raise funds for wildlife conservation. This exciting new partnership will be launched at Banham Zoo on the 8th of July, when Libbi will join us at the zoo to meet our guests and show examples of her work.

The aim of our Artist in Residence project is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) at the zoo, and pottery is the perfect medium for this, as there is some serious science to this beautiful art!

Libbi is also delighted to be involved in the project, and our 50th birthday has a very personal link!

I feel very honoured and excited to be asked to be Banham Zoo’s ‘Artist in Residence’.  I, like Banham Zoo, am celebrating my 50th year this year!”

“Creativity is a very important part of my life and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to share the processes and creative aspects of my ceramic work and encourage and celebrate creativity in others during this period.”

Banham Zoo has always had ties with the art world, primarily through the Natural World Art Society (formally the Natural World Art Group), an exhibiting art group that has been based at the zoo since it was formed in 1998. The Society has recently moved into a new gallery, located just outside the zoo entrance, which opens for exhibitions throughout the year and admission to the gallery is free.

We hope our Artist in Residence project will be yet another exciting cooperation between the art world and zoo conservation! If you would like to meet our new Artist in Residence come along to the Zoo on the 8th of July.
