Our sea lion pup has been delighting our visitors for many weeks, but now she finally has a name!
It’s Dora, the first sea lion to be born in our new saltwater marine habitat ‘Sea Lion Bay’ which opened early this year as part of the Zoo’s 50th birthday celebration. Mum Filippa gave birth to the adorable pup on Friday 15th June and both bonded immediately.
It took several weeks before keepers at the zoo could identify her gender, once it was known, readers of the EDP were invited to help us name her.
We received hundreds of name suggestions, and eventually keepers voted for their favourite and thought Dora was very fitting for her, as she is very adventurous and at just over five weeks old she was confidently swimming and exploring “Sea Lion Bay” with mum Filippa and the other sea lions.
Congratulations to the Chambers family who won the opportunity to name her, plus, received a sea lion sponsorship for one year and complimentary tickets to come and visit Banham Zoo and catch up with Dora and the rest of the sea lions.
