Can you imagine a world without lemurs, tigers and rhinos? With the latest IUCN Red Data List assessments highlighting more than 28,000 species at threat of extinction worldwide, global wildlife seems more at risk than ever.

Here at the Zoological Society of East Anglia (ZSEA) we are committed to protecting animals and their habitats for future generations and we are proud to announce the launch of the ZSEA Conservation Fund, aimed at supporting our conservation work both within Banham Zoo and Africa Alive! and in the wild.

The threats facing global wildlife continue to increase and put pressure on animal populations and their habitats. This makes the work of ZSEA ever more critical and we aim to continue to develop our involvement in conservation projects and programmes that deliver proven results and save endangered species from the brink of extinction.

The ‘ZSEA Pledge’ was ratified in May, in front of HRH The Earl of Wessex, and aims to ensure that 15 conservation dependant species are safer from extinction by 2025. Through the launch of the ZSEA Conservation Fund, we are now expanding our conservation programme and further developing the positive impact we can have on the world’s wildlife.

ZSEA already partners with two dynamic conservation projects that are working to protect, save and strengthen animal populations in Madagascar and Vietnam; the AEECL and the Saola Working Group. Staff at both Banham Zoo and Africa Alive! are integral to these projects, bringing their valuable expertise and knowledge on board. We were also extremely proud to donate £25,000 to wild tiger conservation this year from the new conservation fund, raised through our 50th Anniversary celebrations at Banham Zoo and presented to WildCats Conservation Alliance.

We are now looking to the future and exciting project plans are currently being developed to further our global wildlife conservation impact. One of these projects will see an increase in our support and involvement of endangered vulture populations in the wild. The ZSEA Conservation Fund will be the nucleus of these plans, ensuring we have adequate funding to succeed in saving endangered species from extinction.
