Early Years Foundation Stage

Hands on Learning!

Early Years Foundation Stage

Key to every Early Years Discovery Session at Banham Zoo is that each child has the opportunity to touch and hold animals and ‘biofacts’. They can learn through repetition, using their senses, sharing, taking turns, asking and answering questions and movements. Teachers, parents and other carers can help children to achieve these learning goals through joining in with activities.

All of our EYFS sessions are designed to support individuals in the 3 Prime Areas: Personal, Emotional & Social Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development.

See the session description below for links to the Specific Areas covered by the Discovery session (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive Arts & Design).

A day out at the Zoo will encourage learning in all three areas of Characteristics of Effective Learning: Playing and exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically.

Just for fun!

Topics can also be adapted to suit individual curriculum’s or schemes of work. Please contact the Education Department to discuss how we can tailor a session to meet your needs on schools@zsea.org or call 01953 887771 option 3.

We encourage photos to be taken as they make a wonderful addition to a child’s learning journey. Please ensure all relevant consent has been obtained.

Sessions last approximately 40 mins and can seat up to 30 people, however for groups of between 15 and 30 we recommend halving your group so that each has around 20 minutes.
