Our Further Education Sessions are based around 3 main themes; Zoo Animal Management, Business or Conservation, and are available in a number of specialist topics. If you would like a session tailored to meet a certain curriculum or syllabus, please contact the Education Team at schools@zsea.org

Zoo Animal Management: Environmental Enrichment

In order to maintain an animal’s natural instincts and abilities they must be able to exhibit natural behaviours. This session will look at a variety of different forms of environmental enrichment and their use in the zoo.

Zoo Animal Management: Zoo Nutrition, Health And Zoonoses

Providing the correct nutrition for zoo animals is vital for their health and well-being. This session looks at the importance of good nutrition and how it is achieved, as well as vet checks, preventative medicine, correct storage of foods and prevention of zoonotic diseases.

Zoo Animal Management: Science In The Workplace

Animal keeping staff have a varied job role, which includes all the sciences to different degrees. During this session, we will look at the role of the zookeeper, how to get into this role and what it involves on a day to day basis. We will also look at the importance of health and safety in the role and who this affects.
