FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions that we receive:

Q: When can I book my one free teacher familiarisation visit?

A: This can be booked by contacting schools@zsea.org once your have received your booking confirmation.

Q: How much time should be allocated for a school / group visit to the zoo?

A: Allow four hours, especially if you want to include a Discovery Session.

Q: How far in advance do I need to book?

A: Due to COVID-19 we are now required to ensure all guests, including groups, pre book a timed entrance slots. Therefore please contact schools@zsea.org to discuss your intended visit in plenty of time to allow for any disappointment.

Q: Can we pay on the day?

A: A booking must be made at least 10 days in advance of your visit, and your school will be invoiced after your visit is completed. Payments should be made by BACS using the details and reference number provided on the invoice. For more information about bookings please visit our bookings enquiry page.

Q: Do school children need to be accompanied?

A: For Health & Safety reasons, we ask that all students up to the age of 16 are accompanied by a group leader at all times.

Q: If it is wet, is there anywhere to eat our packed lunches?

A: Yes, there is an undercover picnic area next to the Parkside Pizza.

Q: How do I book a Discovery Session or curriculum-linked education trail?

A: Sessions are available for all ages and abilities on a number of different topics. These can be tailored to meet your requirements. Sessions and trails can be booked by contacting schools@zsea.org. Please be aware there is a high demand and therefore limited availability for these sessions at times.

Q: How do the school children collect their medals?

A: To save time and confusion, a teacher / leader will be given the medals for the whole group which can be handed out on the coach or at the end of their visit.

Q: Can food be pre-ordered?

A: Yes, picnic boxes and group meals can be ordered in advance. Please call Guest Information on 01953 887771 option 1 to book. Bookings should be made at least two weeks before your visit.

Q: Can we pre-book the Safari Roadtrain?

A: The Safari Roadtrain is free and groups are welcome to use it during their visit without pre-booking. However if you would like to pre-book for your group’s exclusive use, please contact our Guest Services Team on 01953 887771 option 1 for prices and times. Please note the Safari Roadtrain is currently not operating at this time. Contact schools@zsea.org for further information.
